PAN Card Status

PAN or permanent account number is a 10 character alpha numeric code which is required for all the Indians who pay Income Tax. You can check get the PAN card status in official website of Income tax of India. Select the application type (PAN / TAN), if you have acknowledgement number, then enter it and then click on submit. If you dont have an acknowledgement number, then enter your name, date of birth and then click on submit.

PAN Card

PAN card is essential for every Income Tax payer and is issued by the department of Income Tax. It is a unique 10 character code and an example number looks like ABCDE1234Z. When filing for Income Tax returns or any other communication with IT department, it is essential to give PAN card number.

The PAN card is not only useful for filing IT returns; Many government departments like Banks had made PAN card as an essential proof of document. The Reserve Bank of India made pan card as essential for making bank transactions which exceeds an amount of RS.50000.

PAN Card Application

Individuals has to use Form 49A for applying a new PAN card. Click Here for applying a new pan card. You will receive a 15 digit acknowledgement number after 3 days. Use this acknowledgement number for checking the PAN card status. You have to submit the following documents while applying for a new PAN card

Identity proof document: You can submit any copy of the following document as identity proof.

  • AADHAAR Card issued by UIDAI.
  • Arms License.
  • Bank certificate in original on letter head of the branch ( along with name and stamp of issuing officer) containing duly attested photograph and bank A/c no of the Applicant. Original document has to be submitted.
  • Central Govt Health Scheme Card or Ex serviceman Contributory Health Scheme photo card.
  • Certificate of identity in original signed by MP or MLA or Municipal Councilor (Annexure-A). Original document has to be submitted.
  • Certificate of identity in original signed from Gazetted Officer. Original document has to be submitted.
  • Driving License.
  • Passport.
  • Pensioner Card having photograph of Applicant.
  • Photo ID card issued by Central Govt or State Govt or a Public Sector Undertaking.
  • Ration Card having photograph of the applicant.
  • Voters ID card.

Address proof document: Submit one of the following document as poof of address.

  • AADHAAR Card issued by UIDAI.
  • Allotment letter of accommodation issued by Central Govt or State Govt not more than 3 Years old.
  • Bank Account Statement not more than 3 months old.
  • Certificate of address in original signed by MP or MLA or Municipal Councilor (Annexure-A).
  • Certificate of address in original signed from Gazetted Officer.
  • Consumer Gas connection card or book or piped gas bill not more than 3 months old.
  • Copy Electricity bill not more than 3 months old.
  • Copy Land Line telephone Bill or Broad band connection bill not more than 3 months old.
  • Credit card statement not more than 3 months old.
  • Depository account statement not more than 3 months old.
  • Domicile certificate issued by Government.
  • Driving License.
  • Employer certificate in ORIGINAL.
  • Latest Property tax assessment order.
  • Passport.
  • Passport of the Spouse.
  • Post office pass book having address of applicant.
  • Property registration document.
  • Voters ID card.
  • Water Bill not more than 3 months old.

Date of Birth document: Any of the below document can be submitted as a proof of date of birth.

  • AADHAAR Card issued by UIDAI.
  • Affidavit sworn before Magistrate stating Date of Birth.
  • Birth Certificate issued by Municipal Authority or any office authorized to issue Birth and Death Certificate by Registrar of Birth and Deaths or the Indian Consulate.
  • Central Govt Health Scheme Card or Ex serviceman Contributory Health Scheme photo card.
  • Domicile certificate issued by Government.
  • Driving License.
  • Marriage Certificate issued by Registrar of Marriages.
  • Matriculation certificate or mark sheet of recognized board.
  • Passport.
  • Pension payment order.
  • Photo ID card issued by Central Govt or State Govt or a Public Sector undertaking or State Public sector undertaking.
  • Voters ID card.
